- Would come back again! My partner and I stayed for 5 nights during the off-peak season (December) using a package from MyFiji Holidays. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, which made the stay even better. Staff went above their standard duties, making us special cocktails off the menu and even a hand woven coconut leaf hat after we attended a Fijian weaving experience.
The amenities are all you could need for a mix of relaxation and adventure. The snorkel gear and kayak were available as we needed. There was a coral reef right in front of the resort beach and a small rock island only a 10min kayak from the resort with abundant wildlife - reef fish, reef shark, stingrays, turtles and starfish! The water was walk-in temperature. There wasn’t really any need to leave the resort as there were so many activities to do there.
The massage hut was perched on a point overlooking the water - no need for music with the natural ambiance. The staff were so lovely and happy to chat. They had a guest pool with bar service in the pool, overlooking the beach. We also had a private plunge pool and an outdoor shower at the room, which were lovely to use in privacy. The rooms were spacious and clean with aircon and huge a bed.
There was a daily schedule filled with included activities (ceviche demo, coconut tree use, basket weaving, sports) and additional cost activities (island picnics, snorkel trips, visit to a floating restaurant). We attended a Meke (Fijian dance) with a Lovo (underground oven) dinner, which was fun to experience.
We would love to come back to enjoy the hospitality of Tropica Island staff and Fijians!maggieflynn9712/18/2024Location and rooms great.Lots of amazing staff but was brought down by activities being cancelled often and for no apparent reason. When we organised a private tour so we could make the most of our time some of our group was questioned.Breakfast food was sometimes a bit iffy and took ages for them to ever come out and offer the hot food over the buffet. The lives qt the bar where always great and super inviting.Ben Vasiliu12/03/2024Beautiful and clean hotel, amazing and kind service, unfortunately the beach is not nice, so if you are expecting a sandy beach, then not at this resort... everything else is 1000% great... you can take a trip to the island where the movie Cast Away was filmed, which was absolutely amazing and unforgettable!!! The only thing I would criticize is the duration of the trip, unfortunately it is very short for me and one could stay here all day and even for the money (350FJD/per person) it should be like that... Trip duration: departure from the hotel at 9 am and around 2 pm you are back at the hotel. The price of the trip includes lunch (sandwiches, fruit, vegetables), water and champagne...Roman Visinger11/21/2024We stayed in a beachfront bure where we could sit on the swing seat on the deck and watch the tide and the sunset. The snorkelling off the beach was better than expected and the staff and food was excellent. I highly recommend the dinner on the pier. We first came here over 30 years ago when it was the Lako Mai timeshare and staying here again certainly brings back fond memories. Also there is only a small number of guests and it’s adult only so you will find it peaceful lounging by the pool.Nigel Parker11/21/2024Paradise We were lucky enough to spend 5nights here in a beachfront pool Bure. The staff, food and surrounds were absolutely amazing!
The staff made our trip they were so personable and attentive! Being able to kayak and paddleboard off the island to the most spectacular clear crystal blue water is a highlight. We would highly recommend Tropica and will definitely go back, thx Tropica for an unforgettable trip!Katrina K11/08/2024South Pacific Paradise We arrived on the ferry from Nadi harbor and Tropica staff meet us and brought us aboard their boat to their resort. They played some music to welcome us which was a nice touch. We didn't realize the resort is somewhat small with about 2 dozen bungalows (Bure). The smaller size made it feel actually quite special. Our bure was literally a few steps from the ocean and had both indoor and outdoor shower (love it!) and plunge pool. The main pool is an infinity pool overlooking a grassy palm grove in the near ground and the ocean it ranks among the nicest pools I've ever seen. The food was excellent - both quality and variety. We went on a 2-tank morning dive 1st dive ok, 2nd dive was fabulous seeing huge coral beds in the shape of blooming flowers with "petals" that were each a few feet long. My wife saw 3 sharks (I saw only 1) but lots of great, colorful fish. The scuba was an outfit that partners with Tropica but their beach was great for snorkling where we saw loads of fish. The setting is fabulous we took paddleboards out (no charge) and the scene is like out of a movie. Speaking of which we later heard that many episodes of Survivor were filmed not far away and our scuba dive was next to the island where the 2000 Tom Hanks movie Castaway was filmed. The view from our bure (and almost all the bures) and common areas overlook the ocean with island that Google bought a couple years back several hundred yards out. We found that the Fiji people are warm and gracious we understand they are raised to be especially considerate and warm and of course in an economy heavily based on hospitality this is a huge factor in their favor. And yet, it seemed to us that the persons we interacted with where even more hospital than most and that says a lot. We met someone who came back to Tropica and says they've been to other Fiji islands but Tropica is the best. It's also sheltered from the winds unlike the resorts that are each side. The one thing we didn't expect is that it's not really practical to walk to other resorts or a town. They had a town tour but one takes a boat and water was too choppy so it was postponed until after we left. Yet, the seclusion is also nice, well it was for us as we only stayed 3 nights. Overall, everything was excellent!Mike M11/08/2024This was truly an experience in paradise! Our beachfront private pool bure was amazing and the perfect place to stay for our 25th wedding anniversary. There is no wi-fi in the bungalows and the atmosphere is so peaceful and serene - not to mention the most beautiful views - even when it rained on a couple days. We kayaked out to Rock island for our own private ocean swimming excursion and also did a guided snorkling excursion which was awesome.
The staff at Tropica were truly the best - so incredibly caring and thoughtful. We also booked a private dinner out on the pier for our anniversary and they put together an unbelievable vegetarian meal for us. All meals were delicious and there were plenty of tasty vegetarian options. We stayed for six nights and didn't want to leave. If you can make it on a Sunday evening to hear the Tropica choir sing, get ready for a treat!
Thank you to Tropica for making our special trip even more amazing than we had expected! Vinaka Vakalevu!!Angie G11/02/2024I came here in August to celebrate my birthday, and the joy and warmth from that experience have lasted until now. The staff are all so helpful, cheerful, and adorable. Thank you all for making us feel truly at home. Thank you for remembering our names so thoughtfully, and thank you for singing me the most touching and wonderful birthday song. Special thanks to Tasi, Wati, and the one who picked a coconut for me, along with every staffs. I felt so reluctant to leave; thank you all so much, and I will definitely come back! From Taiwan Fanta and Ericaenfanta11/01/2024We had the best time at Tropica for our honeymoon. The staff make this place so special! Fina, Tasi, Isoa, Tito, Ana and the f&b team are always checking in to see if you want anything to eat or drink in the restaurant or lazing around the pool! Ziggy, Julie, Davita and Wice making all the activities fun! The landscaping team are always happy and friendly to chat.Although this is a small resort we were never bored. There are kayaks, SUPs, snorkeling and day trips. And the activities at night were lots of fun - crab racing, karaoke, Fiji night with lovo and dancing. It was so much fun and a very relaxing stay. Being on Malolo Island and adults only resort was peaceful. We had an oceanfront view with pool Bure complete with indoor and outdoor showers. The view was breathtaking and the room super comfortable. The staff was very friendly and super hospitable. Everyday they have activities set up and they go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and the pier seafood dinner was spectacular. The decor they surprised us with on our Bure entrance and the Happy Anniversary sign on our bed was a testament to attention to detail this amazing staff have. If you're looking for excursions every day might be challenging since this is not the mainland so excursions are limited. The beach is amazing for snorkeling but water shoes are recommended since there are lots of rocks as you enter the water. The sand is raked every morning but it's a short strip of sand before the water and rocks start. They have a bar and restaurant which changes menu for dinner every evening. They also have a main infinity pool and beautifully manicured grounds. We were sad to leave. We will definitely be returning to stay in Bure lima. Vinaka vakalevu amazing Tropica staff!Marce M10/16/2024This resort was nothing short of amazing. I wouldn’t even bother to focus on any of the subpar reviews, because there has to be something seriously wrong with someone not to like this resort or to have a negative opinion. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome, they go out of there way to know you on a first name basis. The food was outstanding. Fijians are so genuine and welcoming. I had the best time at the Tropica Island Resort. Tito and Sherry are the best, incredible people. I usually don’t vacation at the same place twice, but I would definitely come back here simply because of those two. Wow is all I can say. You will not be disappointed in the slightest to spend time at this resort.Steve Landman10/16/2024An excellent and special place to just escape. This was an incredible place to stay--quiet, relaxing, and undemanding. The staff is all friendly, and within a day, they were calling me by name. As an adults-only resort, it makes the place much more enjoyable, since there isn't screaming or yelling and no crazy activity at the main pool. The food and drink are all good too! Highly recommended if you're looking to relax and just get away from everything, or have a special, memorable vacation.
To get there, you have to travel by boat or ship from Nadi, Fiji. Both South Sea Cruises and the Malolo Cat are the typical ways one would arrive, and you need to coordinate ahead of time with the resort so they can ensure their boat meets you to take you to the resort. When you arrive, you're immediately welcomed by singers. Accommodations range from bures with pools to bures without dipping pools. They all have outdoor showers (I never actually used the indoor shower), a small refrigerator, and an AC unit. There aren't any TVs. Wifi internet is available in the common areas.
Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are either by meal plan or charged to your room for payment at check-out. The meals were all excellent, and the way it worked out for me, it was way cheaper to just pay for each meal rather than go for a meal plan. There's a variety of choices at dinner as well, which change from day to day. I really liked the BLT with fries at lunch; their fries were really good!
Customer service is excellent. I was able to arrange for a day trip back to Nadi to do a little sightseeing, and the staff helped arranged that. After a few days, I had begun learning the names of the staff as well, because they are all so friendly.
There are daily activities, like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, a village visit. Some may cost extra--like snorkeling to a location away from the resort or visiting a village. But if you want free activities, you can snorkel or kayak right from the beach. There's daily fish feeding too. For extra cost, you can have a private dinner on the pier or watch the sunset from a private point.
Sunsets and happy hour are a special time, and the resort has a superb view for sunsets.
At the end of my five-night stay, I was really sad to leave because I felt so relaxed and happy.anthony h10/13/2024Fantastic peaceful holiday We recently spent 6 nights at this lovely resort and didn't want to leave. As it is a small resort with no children it felt very intimate and tranquil. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and prices were similar to what you would pay in Australia. The breakfast menu was the same each day (a continental buffet plus a hot meal a la carte) but the dinner menu (a la carte only) changed each day so there was plenty of variety. The bure had a small bar fridge and a coffee plunger but you will need to bring food from the mainland if you want fruit or cheese as the resort shop only had a limited range of snacks such as chips.
There was reasonable snorkelling from the beach but as expected the greater diversity of coral and fish was on the daily boat trips - we highly recommend Garden Reef in particular. They also have plenty of kayaks and paddle boards for guest use.
